When in Doubt, Choose Change: A Farewell For Now
Dear Friends,
There is no easy way to say this, so I am going to do it in the most Kristen way possible and be straight forward: The Yoga Ground's brick & mortar space will close at the end of February.
I know this might be upsetting; please know that it was an incredibly hard decision for me.
The last two years of pandemic have been a financial struggle for the studio. They have also been a struggle for me mentally and emotionally. I don’t have any more money to put into it and I am exhausted.
It sounds counterintuitive to say that in order to keep The Yoga Ground alive, I have to let go of the studio space. But The Yoga Ground has always been about outreach.
Accessible, inclusive, welcoming and community-focused. These have been our values from the beginning. By staying connected to what is going on in the world, by committing to yoga in action, by doing no harm but also interrupting harm when we see it, we can use yoga as a tool of service that doesn’t just happen inside of our studio. We can make yoga accessible to those who have been marginalized by the way the practice is presented in our country without a brick & mortar.
My hope is to keep TYG alive by bringing yoga to the communities who need it. Organized outreach classes, livestreams, our video library, pop up classes when it gets nice out, more teacher trainings, continuing education, small workshops, and retreats.
We have done a lot in just a little time. In such a short time we have built a strong and lasting community and I truly hope we stay connected to each other and that you will stay connected with TYG in whatever forms it takes.
One of the things that makes me saddest is that this corner in West Orange will lose a yoga studio space, and so I am open to selling it in some fashion, if any of you might be interested in buying it! I do believe students will come back — I just can’t ride the wait out any longer.
This isn’t goodbye, but just a farewell for now, or sorts.
I am here for you. Please reach out to kristen@theyogaground.com if there is anything you need or if you have any questions.

P.S. Stay tuned for a teacher training featuring many of the TYG teachers in early 2022.
